Scope and content : No.57 in I. Vincent's wallet captioned 'C-1. # 251 C249 P103 N. Wei N. Wall, 6' high'.' No. 57 in J. Vincent's wallet. 'Reproduced as Plate 12, Irene Vongehr Vincent, 'The Sacred Oasis' (London, 1953), with the caption: 'Buddha and bodhisattvas. Simulated beam-ends visible above Buddha's canopy. Two brackets made of wood have been inserted into wall at peak of ceiling and to the left, where this portion of the chapel adjoins the main portion. Oxidation is evident in darkness of skin and over-prominent highlights.' Enlarged print Photo 1231/4(12). Similar to Plate 8 in Basil Gray and John. B. Vincent, 'Buddhist Cave Paintings at Tun-Huang' (London, 1959) but this is printed from another negative.
