Approximately four miles west of Turfan on the northern arm of the Silk Road, Yarkhoto is known in Chinese as Jiaohe, which is referred to in the Chinese Annals as the ruined capital of the Anterior Jushi Kingdom, or Turfan. See Serindia map no. 54, D. 1; Innermost Asia, Vol. IV Maps, Pl. 35.
