Scope and content : Sherd of a wheel-thrown pottery vessel made of red clay, covered with a white slip. The vessel was decorated with incised wavy lines.

Find site description

On the west side of the Keriya river that runs in to the Taklamakan desert northwards. Hedin paid a short visit to the site in 1896 (See 'Through Asia', ii. pp. 816 sq.; 'Reisen in Z.-A., pp. 43 sq.). Stein excavated the remains on 14-17 March 1901 (Stein 1907, pp. 446-452). In the ruins of a quadrangle, which may have been a resting place and inspection point halfway between the Tarim and the main oasis of Khotan, small antiques, coins and pottery fragments were found.
