Find site description
A small ruined enclosure south of the Charkhlik oasis, on the southern arm of the Silk Road. (Innermost Asia, pp. 164-5, map no. 30). Made from sun-dried bricks,a stupa base remains at its middle, and two small Vihara chapels to the west of the base with niches remaining. Fragments of murals and sculptures survived. Remains suggest occupation in 7th and early 8th centuries.
Excavation history : Stein visited in January 1914 and noted that the remains showed signs of superificial searching in places by Tachibana on the Otani expedition of 1910-11.
Short description : Small ruined enclosure with stupa and chapels.
