Description
Scope and content : While in Bamiyan, Masson copied some of the surviving painted fragments that survived in the niche behind the head of the great Buddha image. He later wrote that ‘the inspired teacher is not, we think, Buddha – for Buddha could scarcely be represented in so scant a costume…and it is not perhaps certain that he travelled so far westward…’
