Description
Scope and content : This bears the date 882 (2nd year of Zhonghe) and the inscription 'Family calendar of Fan Shang of Chengdu in Xichuan, province of Jiannan.' This was in present-day Sichuan, soutwest China, which was a known centre of printing at the time. In 835 there had been imperial proscription against the private printing of almanacs. It has been suggested that this was printed on clay rather than wood blocks (Giles 1939: 1037).
