Scope and content : Photograph by John Vincent of Dunhuang Mogao Cave 285 in 1948 captioned in his list as 'North quadrant of ceiling. Detail which shows in left-hand portion of Pelliot CCLXVIII.' The image is reproduced as Plate 23 (colour) in Basil Gray, 'Buddhist Cave Paintings at Tun-Huang' (Faber: London 1959), which is captioned: 'North Quadrant of the Vault. Thunder demons and monsters above Budda frieze. Dated A.D. 538.'
