Description
Scope and content : Fragment of wall-painting. The basic material used is stucco mixed with grass and straw, the surface is made of an additional layer of finer material. The fragment is painted with a depiction of the Buddha wearing a dark red robe. He is seated on a cushion in front of a mandorla, his head slightly turned and surrounded by a halo. Both hands are held level with the heart, thumbs and index fingers forming circles. This is the Dharmachakra Mudra, the gesture of teaching. Underneath the cushion a few bunches of grass and a Br_hm_ inscription can be seen. The object is very worn and a lot of pigments have flaked off.
