Description
Scope and content : Plate 6, Irene Vongehr Vincent, 'The Sacred Oasis' (London, 1953). Captions reads: 'Central portion of the caves, showing four levels of chapels. One timbered stucco ante-chapel, to the left of the tree, is intact, as is one just above it. The staircase visible at the extreme right leads from a p'ai lou, or archways, called Ku Han Ch'iao, the Ancient Han bridge, reckoned the centre of the cave-chapels.' Negative Photo 1231/1(70).
