Description
Scope and content : Photograph by John Vincent of Dunhuang Mogao Cave 285 in 1948 captioned in his list as 'South Wall. The extension of scene in 2/8 [Photo 1231/6(17)]. Includes a blue-roofed compound. Pl. CCLII.' The image is similar (but not the same) as that reproduced as Plate 26 (b&w) in Basil Gray, 'Buddhist Cave Paintings at Tun-Huang' (Faber: London 1959), which is captioned: 'A battle with bandits A.D. 538/9.'
