Description
Scope and content : Fragment of a wall-painting. Shown here is a representation of the Buddha seated in meditation pose before a mandorla. He is depicted as wearing a dark red outer robe and a light green undergarment. The mandorla has two layers, one white the other light blue. The pigments used are very faded and have flaked off in many places so that f.i. the facial features are not discernible anymore. The backing material used is coarse clay mixed with a high quantity of plant fibres. The surface layer is very thin and friable.
