Find site description

On the west side of the Keriya river that runs in to the Taklamakan desert northwards. Hedin paid a short visit to the site in 1896 (See 'Through Asia', ii. pp. 816 sq.; 'Reisen in Z.-A., pp. 43 sq.). Stein excavated the remains on 14-17 March 1901 (Stein 1907, pp. 446-452). In the ruins of a quadrangle, which may have been a resting place and inspection point halfway between the Tarim and the main oasis of Khotan, small antiques, coins and pottery fragments were found.
