Scope and content : No. 65 in I. Vincent's wallet captioned 'C-9. cave 220 N. wall, centre.' Contact print with additional notes: 'Beg Tang, north wall about centre. Detail of this scene reproduced as Plate 38, Basil Gray and John B. Vincent, 'Buddhist Cave Paintings at Tun-Huang' (London, 1959: 54) captioned: 'Dated A.D. 642. The main subject of the composition on this wall is a sequence of the Seven Buddhas who have lived in this world. They are shown standing on lotus pedestals beneath jewelled canopies which float, wind-blown, above their heads. Between the Buddhas are figures of one or two Bodhisattvas on a small scale.'
