Description

Scope and content : Fragmentary clay plaque showing the Buddha. He was seated in meditation pose against a vesica, which is now lost. His legs are crossed, the eyes closed and the hands held in meditation position (dhy_na mudr_). The head with strongly elongated earlobes and the clearly visible protuberance was once surrounded by a halo, remains of which can still be seen. The figure was made of yellowish clay using a mould and was covered with a white slip before being fired.
