Description
Scope and content : Eleven folios of a birch-bark ms., numbered 43-53 containing 1) the major part of the Sangha-rakshitavadana (Divyavadana XXIII), and 2) a part of the Vinaya of the Mulasarvastivadin school of Buddhism, comprising the latter portion of the Pravrajya-vastu and the beginning of the Pashadha-vastu, in the original Sanskrit; published by Sylvain Levi in Journal Asiatique, tome 220, 1932, pp. 22-24. 6th to 7th century AD.

Find site description
Stupa above Naupur village , two miles west of Gilgit cantonment at which a hoard of manuscripts, mainly on birchbark, was discovered in 1931 by villagers.
Excavation history : Original discovery by villagers in 1931. Stupa was then excavated by Madhu Sudan Kaul Shastri in August 1948.
