Description
Scope and content : This is a 115 cm long, 17 cm high printed version of a sketch of the layout of the caves, with text in Chinese underneath, entitled 敦煌莫高窟千佛洞全圖. It was drawn in 1945, but the signatures (Chinese at the beginning of the sketch, English at the end) with the artist’s name and other details are too fuzzy to make out clearly. There is nothing to indicate whether Joseph Needham was sent it in 1945, or acquired it later, perhaps in 1958.
