The Dunhuang Academy was first established in 1944 and is now responsible for the management of the UNESCO World Heritage Site at the Mogao Caves outside Dunhuang, in addition to five other archaeological sites in Gansu Province, China. As well as maintaining and preserving this important site, the Dunhuang Academy also supports research into the caves and their history.
