The 19th international seminar on the care and conservation of manuscripts

Conservators engaged in the IDP’s Lotus Sutra Conservation and Digitisation Project, Marie Kaladgew, Paulina Kralka & Marya Muzart, presented in session 5B on the second day of the seminar: ‘Rethinking digitisation as a preservation strategy: Lessons learnt from the Lotus Sutra project at the British Library 2017-2022’.

The seminar is now over

For 3 days 215 scholars, conservators, librarians, archivists, curators and others who work in the field of manuscript studies, preservation and conservation got together at the South Campus of the University of Copenhagen, gave and heard papers, discussed their content and generally had a very good time.

The sun decided to shine every day – thus contributing to the good atmosphere.

In addition around 160 people followed the papers on the streaming-service every day.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Copenhagen in April 2025 for the 20th seminar.

History of the seminar

In April 1994 a group of manuscript experts met at the Arnamagnæan Institute of the University of Copenhagen for a seminar titled the care and conservation of manuscripts. This was in response to new ideas on the conservation and preservation of manuscripts which were seeing the light of day at the time. More about the seminar.
