The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts‘ Dunhuang Collection contains items brought back by Sergey Oldenburg’s second expedition, consisting mainly of manuscript and artefact fragments from Dunhuang and Turfan alongside some substantial scrolls.

The IOM also holds the first identified documents in Tangut, excavated from Kharakhoto by Pyotr Kuzmich Kozlov’s expedition in 1907-9. This ‘Tangut collection’ also contains a significant number of Chinese manuscripts.
